What can i do to help two 5 day old Indian Minor chics stuck in their nest that have been abandoned by mother?

An Indian Minor bird laid 4 eggs in my electricity box which hatched 5 days ago. Since then 2 have died but the mother has been with them 24/7. When I checked tonight the mother was gone & the 2 surviving chics are left alone. I have put cotton wool in the nest to heip keep them warm but I dont know how to feed them. Will the mother come back or has she abandoned them for good now? Because it seems strange that she hung around for a few days & then disappeared. Can someone tell me what I need to feed them & how to do it?

I found three baby birds on my lawn that got blew out of there nest, please help!?

Tonight we had a huge wind storm, I went outside to clean things up and found three baby birds on the lawn. The nest is to far up in the pine tree to even reach it with a latter. I have the babies in a box in the garage in a towel. Please help I’m not sure exactly what to do?

Am i doing this right? I hope so!- Yes its about parakeets…..again! :)?

Ok, so as of right now, or at least by tonight, I will have a nesting box ready for the cage.

1) Now, it isn’t a 12” x12” box which I heard is how big it should be. But it’s big enough as where both parents have enough room to move around in. I don’t have pine shavings available to me, so is there anything else that’s safe to use? Like maybe shredded tissue or even toilet paper? Let me know. Oh, one more thing about the nest box, I made mine, and it is open, by which I mean it doesn’t have anything covering it, even partially. Is that ok, even with nothing covering it? And once the box is in the cage, should I keep the cage covered with a blanket, to help keep them warm and to help stimulate breeding? Like keep the cage covered all day?
2) I started (at night), where I put a blanket over the cage, will that help keep the birds warm? Only because sometimes my room gets a little chilly.
3) How long will it take them to lay the eggs? And when they lay eggs, should I, but from a distance, shine a lamp on them so everyone’s warm? Just keep in mind that my room gets a little chilly, and when I say a little, I mean it. Once the eggs are laid, should I cover the cage with a blanket and shine a lamp from far away or what?
I just want to be really sure!!

Found a baby bird tonight Please Help!?

My dog was barking outside and would not stop! I went outside to look and it was a baby bird! Me and my mom put him in a box. He can’t fly yet but has feathers and hops around trying to fly. Soon he fell asleep in the box. My step-dad is going to be home soon and we are going to put him back in the nest. Do you think his mom may have left him? What things should we give him to keep him alive for a couple more hours?

Cockatiel Pair: Need Help With A Decision?

Recently, my pair of cockatiels just laid two eggs, and we are expecting another one tonight (11/06/08), since every other night Grey Grey has laid her eggs, and she has verly large and smelly droppings, and a egg shaped vent. And she has been doing very well with the eggs! Along with her mate and the father of the chicks, Diablo.

But the problem is, Diablo is over-protective. It is a good trait in parents, I understand that, but this is goes way too far. Whenever Grey Grey leaves to drink or eat, or say hello to us, Diablo takes over the sitting. Which is good, but, Diablo won’t let Grey Grey into the nest box! He stampedes out of the nest box and attacks her by biting her in various places, trying to attack her, and trying to attack us to get to her when we are holding Grey Grey. And he keeps trying to mate with her, so we separate them at that time. Grey Grey likes to be picked up, and comes to us, so we don’t really interfere with the eggs. But still, he won’t let Grey Grey in at all, to lay or incubate the eggs.

We have a spare cage for any of our birds (cockatiels/parakeets), if a problem occurs, and Diablo is currently staying in there while Grey Grey is incubating and doing the motherly roll. And Diablo gets a little mad at first, but he is settled down and Grey Grey is sitting in the cage as we speak.

My question is, should we keep Diablo separated from her permanently? Grey Grey is doing a fine job of taking care of the eggs, but I was wondering. And I was reading, and I read that cockatiel eggs can stay viable for seven days, and the maximum time she is gone is about five minutes, and it is room temperature around their cage. But still, my question stands, should we separate Diablo from the mother and eggs? If so, can Grey Grey fully take care of the eggs on her own? We are pulling the chicks at two weeks of age, if that matters.
