can you solve my nesting box mystery?

i put a nesting box inside of my cockatiels cage. while the box is inside of the cage the birds will not go near it, however each time i clean the cage i put the box on top of it until the cage is clean. this is when the male bird goes to the box and begins to peck at it as if he is trying to make the hole wider. he then makes his whistling sound to entice the female. she then goes to the box and acts as if she is inspecting it. should i keep the box on top of the cage or continue to keep it inside ?
once again HELP!

if my cockateil does not have a nesting box to lay eggs ……?

We found a baby bird the kids want to keep it what should I feed it?

My husband was working on his truck and a baby bird flew on top of the intake he caught it and the kids want to keep it we put it in a cage with water but have no idea what to feed it.
We raise chicks so I do know how to care for small birds should I feed it chick food though?
I DO PLAN TO LET THE BIRD FREE BUT AS OF RIGHT KNOW IT CAN’T FLY IF I LET IT GO THE DOGS OR CATS (ALSO MY PETS) WILL KILL IT WHICH WOULD BE MORE CRUEL? IT CAN ONLY FLY IN LITTLE 2 FEET SPANS IT HAS NO CHANCE FROM GATOR (our cat that catches bats in mid air).
I think it may be a robin unsure of age.
I have no idea about wild birds we feed them in the yard but not in captivity. We looked around the trees for a nest I know it had to have flown from a nest but I live in the country and I cant inspect every tree around the area I would be out there for days.

Parakeet breeding?

I have 2 parakeets: male + female. They are between 5-8 years old right now and I am interested in breeding them. I went to a local bird store and bought a nesting box and put a little of wood shavings on the bottom. Then I put the box inside the cage. However, it seems like my birds don’t understand what the nesting box is for. The male bird often stands on top of the box on the flat surface. The female doesn’t do anything. She never went inside or showed signs of interest. What can I do to ‘teach’ them to use the nesting box?

What should you feed, how many times a day, and whats required in taking care of a parrot? Any info please.?

My husband was given two green parrots with yellow on the head and some red on the top of the wings and red and blues on the bottom of the feathers. The one parrot died the second day – the other is doing okay and we are trying to find another to keep it company. All helpful knowledge and suggestions are appreciated. I’ve never owned a bird before. I told my husband to build on our open 9ft by 9ft patio a roof and put screening for them. I feel birds should be free but it was my husbands present and all I can do is to make them as happy as possible. In the short time with the parrot (Jose) I’ve enjoyed him and gotten close to him but they’re alot of work and time consuming – feeding and cleaning – just like a baby.

OH NO! A protected bird species has made a nest on my back door, so i cant open it. What should i do?

I live in Missouri, and a Spotted Woodpecker has made a nest on the top of my back door, so i cant open it. It is against the law to disturb the bird while nesting, but i need to use that door because its the only way to get to my backyard, where i have my garden and stray cats that i feed. What should i do??? It’s pretty cool to wacth the bird make the nest and everything, but its getting in my way..lol
