Raising Baby Parakeets?

we decided a month ago to let a pair or our parakeets hatch their own eggs out, after a lot of research and stuff. It was her first time, so the eggs never hatched. Then, we took a different pair, who had already bonded, and put them in a separate cage. Toddra, the female parakeet, sat on the eggs and barely got off. Her nest box is a wooden box with 1 hole and a cover that lifts up. A few days ago, I found out some exciting news; one baby chick had hatched! It had hatched a day or two ago, without anyone knowing. Toddra has been sitting on the small, bald chick. It was peeping a lot, so it’s strong and seems healthy. Toddra is fed seeds, a formulated egg diet for extra protein and calcium, and some veggies and fruits, such as apples and celery. So since the mother is feeding the chick, it’s getting a pretty healthy diet. My question is, do we just let Toddra take care of the chick until it’s old enough to leave the nest? If so, at what age is it old enough to live on its own(such as eating solid foods, drinking water, etc.)? Some people take them at 10 weeks and they feed them a special baby bird formula, but we don’t have the time to feed the chick 4x a day. Toddra and the father seem to be taking good care of the chick, so we aren’t really worried about her not feeding it or something like that. Any info on baby parakeets would be great!(not for raising them ourselves, but for knowing when they can live on their own and stuff like that) Thanks!

how should i feed my love birds?

when it comes to the vegetables.. what are the veggies that are good for the birds? and how often do i feed my birds with seeds or veggies or mix?

Will baby cockatiel starve or is he ok?

ok, so I have a momma and baby cockatiel. The baby is fully feathered, except for his head (looks like a vulture with yellow mohawk feathers on his head an orange cheeks!) anyhow, he walks around good and all, but the momma started laying infertile eggs (no mate) and I think she threw him out of the nest. I saw him eating a little bit, but I am scared he will die. I didn’t write down his hatch date, but I would say he is close to 2 months old, He was the only survivor of 5 and I would hate to see him die now. Do they eat less at that age? (he “gets out” of the box since yesterday but doesn’t know how to get back in, so I put him back)Since it seems he knows how to eat and I offer bread, seed and veggies, is that enough? Can he starve? Should I remove the infertile eggs to see if momma bird will tend to her baby again? What should I do?

What should i do to make my birds more friendly?

My pet parakeets have a huge cage and fresh food/ water everyday they also get veggies and treats! nothings wrong with them but they seem to bite alot and get way too scared when i put my hand in their cage! its like one day they will be eating their food out of my hands and letting me pet them and flying aroudnt the room and the next day they freak out when they see my hand go into feed them!

Okay so my Baby Grey has been home a day and a half. I haven’t seen her drink any water yet.?

She has eaten watermelon though. Does she get enough water that way? Also, she munches on fruit, veggies and cereal, but wont eat her veggie mix ( a concoction made for the birds in the store). I was told she was still being fed by syringe once a day, but she fights with me when I try to feed her that way. She wants to eat everything out of my hand. I don’t mind, but how do you think she’s doing? Do you think she’ll get enough food that way, and what about the water?

My cockatiel eggs just started hatching, is there anything special I should be doing?

I read up a lot on cockatiel breeding before I put a nest box in with my two cockatiels, Birdy and Baby. Baby laid 7 eggs (which is a lot from what I’ve read) and they just started hatching. I can hear the cute little peeps coming from their box. I have them in a large cage and I covered it with a sheet so they feel more secure. I’ve been giving them regular cockatiel food, millet (their favorite), a supplement for nesting birds that Kaytee makes, Cheerios (a treat they’ve always enjoyed) and put cuttlebones in there for extra calcium. I tried putting different veggies in there like most books suggested but they don’t eat them. Is there anything else that I should be feeding them? I also put a bird bath in there for humidity which I read was important. I think the best thing I can do is NOT TO DISTURB THEM while the eggs are hatching. I don’t want them to get nervous and accidentally injure a baby or break an egg. Am I right? Should I remove egg shells and other waste?
Thanks for any info. Oh, this is both birds first time. Birdy is four and Baby is about three years old. They both are SUPER PROTECTIVE of their nest box and will try to bite me if I put my hands too close. I’m guessing this is normal? Baby has always been very affectionate but now she will bite and HARD! Like I said, this is just a warning for me to keep my distance, right????
