2 out of my 3 cockatiels started laying eggs. I have 2 females and a male. One of the females is alone, and the two others are together (they are brother and sister). I wasn’t expecting the eggs to hatch, but the brother and sister managed to knock one of the eggs out of their nesting box. (It’s not a real nesting box, it’s just a cardboard box with a hole in the front.) When I was looking at it I held it up to the sunlight (very briefly of course, so I didn’t get a really good look at it) and I could see something in it. It was almost as big as the egg but not quite. It looked pink from what I could see. Could this have been a baby bird? Or was it just an unfertilized yolk? They laid the eggs around late April or early May. I am not sure about the brother and sisters eggs, but I know that the female bird that is alone eggs won’t hatch because the male hasn’t been anywhere near those eggs. I just didn’t want to take the eggs away because they seem to like sitting on them and I didn’t want them to lay more. I know how much calcium it takes from their little bodies. They eat special food with calcium vitamins in it. If they are going to hatch, when will they hatch?
~Thanks~

My mom and i found a newborn bird tonight. It doesnt have feathers…its reddish pink and bald. It hasn’t opened it’s eyes. I googled it to find out what to feed it. It told me to feed it every 45min and this is the recipe it provived: 1cup dry dog/ cat food soaked….a hard boiled egg…one fourth applesauce and vitamins…mixed up like oatmeal. I fed it to the bird and i am going to bed now….should i wake up every 45min or will it be okay until 2maro morning? It is sleeping in a container with crumpled up towel unter a nice heating pad with a towel in between. is there any other accomodations i should make for it? Do you know any hot-lines or places that could take it?

Many people have told me my birds need to be on a pellet diet. I know they are full of vitamins and all that jazz…but I feed mine seed. That is what they would find in the wild…I also provide fresh fruits and vegetables regularly. My birds are living healthily and happily. I just don’t see what the big deal is about pellets. Can someone please explain?
