Birds at the feeder: it’s all about pecking order

I found it really interesting to watch the inter-species interaction at my bird feeder. It turns out size isn’t everything. I recommend watching this full-screen with your sound up. This is another video shot with my Canon HF200 high-def camcorder, equipped with Canon’s DM-100 stereo microphone. Editing software: AVS4You’s Video Editor. I downloaded the individual bird calls at www.eNature.com.

OH NO! A protected bird species has made a nest on my back door, so i cant open it. What should i do?

I live in Missouri, and a Spotted Woodpecker has made a nest on the top of my back door, so i cant open it. It is against the law to disturb the bird while nesting, but i need to use that door because its the only way to get to my backyard, where i have my garden and stray cats that i feed. What should i do??? It’s pretty cool to wacth the bird make the nest and everything, but its getting in my way..lol

Bird feeding station at Clumber Park

This is in the National Trust property of Clumber Park in north Nottinghamshire. The bird feeding station is next to a small car parking area – suitable for about 5 vehicles, so it’s possible for the elderly and disabled to sit and watch the ever-changing wildlife from the comfort of their cars. This was filmed through our car’s windscreen.

Woodpecker — injured juvenile downy woodpecker?

We have an injured juvenile downy woodpecker and have made several calls to local avian vets, rehab facilities and wildlife sanctuaries. Thus far, no response. While I still hope to hear back from someone knowledgeable who can take him, what do we do if they don’t? He has an injured wing, but otherwise is in good spirits. If he survives his injury, but can not fly, what are the odds that we can raise him in captivity? We have managed to feed him a couple of mealworms, but after that….? Has anyone else done this or had experience with this kind of bird? Thank you in advance.
